Cheap .45 ACP Ammo Review

I've never shot worse ammo in all my life. HSM Ammunition is reloads made by the Montana Police Dept. I went to Dave's Sports Shop the other day and asked for the cheapest .45 ACP ammunition. So I walked out of there with a box of HSM loads and a box of Russian imported Wolf ammo. When I went to the range I loaded up with HSM and shot about 3 groups of 5 on a life size target of Osama at 20 Yards. I can tell you that I have never shot worse groups in all my life! What I got was wild random patterns of about a 12" radius... At 20 yards! After the third group I got a little suspicious of the ammo, when I closely examined the bullets I noticed that on one side of the shells they were crimped BELOW where the lead was, denting the brass. I also noticed that the lead was not inserted into the shell evenly, which is probably the reason for the denting. Then I loaded up with wolf ammo and shot about 3" to 5" groups at 20 Yards does that say enough for you? One problem with the Wolf ammo though is the steel casings are no good for reloading.

I should buy some of that cheap stuff. I can't shoot worth a monkeys eye anyway =P

I usually shoot the cheap PMP stuff and the occasional Winchester white box.

I bought a new single stack Para 45 a couple of weeks ago along with a box of HSM 45 (only thing available at the time). Went to the range and could not even get a round to chamber out of the mag. Thought the pistol was at fault and called up Para. They said to return it for checkout, but a few days later I located another brand of ammo and went back to the range. No problems at all for the entire box! This week, all the reloading stuff I ordered to reload .45ACP arrived. I tried the remaining HSM ammo in the case gauge and most would not fit. Some too long - some deformed somehow and would only go in half-way. This stuff is junk! Recommend you stay away from it.

I recently bought a Para .45 and a box of HSM ammo to try it out with. Went to the range to try it out and could not get any rounds to go into the chamber from the mag. Called Para (assuming the pistol was defective) and they said send it in and they would look at it. Luckily, before I got a chance to do that, I obtained a box Of MagTech .45s. Tried them and no problem at all for the entire 50 rounds! After I got reloading gear for the .45, I tried some of the HSM rounds right out of the box in a case gauge - not one would fit!! The Para has not had a single malfunction with my reloads either. If HSM makes ammo for police, I sure hope the police run all the rounds through a gauge before the put them in their duty weapons!
